Creative Nonfiction is one of the most popular genres of writing right now and encompasses many forms, including essay, journal article, research paper, memoir, poem, prose. The key to creative nonfiction is the use of literary techniques to tell nonfiction stories in a way that is dramatic and compelling. We will try several different techniques and styles in order to find the best way to tell our stories, to make them personal and to make them memorable. Bring a notebook and pen.

Where do you even start? How do you fit it all into the word count? This course is a college application essay bootcamp to sit down and just get it done. Using timed writings and discussion, we will inventory our high school experiences, analyze various college application (and scholarship) essay questions, write a good first draft, and discuss editing techniques.
