Ohio Parents Pack School Board Meeting to Speak Out Against Bullying - NBC News

My article for NBC News Asian America
"The suicide of Emilie Olsen last December and the current case of another girl at Fairfield Middle School have been wake-up calls to the Asian-American community in Greater Cincinnati,...The common link is that both girls were adopted as infants from China. While bullying can happen to any student, by the reaction of the Asian-American community, people perceive a trend and pattern at this school and they feel the school has not given the problem enough attention."

Advocates on Capitol Hill Bring Attention to Rising Costs of Hate Violence - NBC News

my article for NBC News Asian America
"Charging an offender with a hate crime is not about demanding harsher penalties," Raghuvinder Singh told those assembled. "It is about acknowledging that hate-based violence is a real problem in our society and that the government is committed to tackling it. Hate crimes terrorize entire communities, like they did to the citizens of Oak Creek, Charleston, and Chapel Hill. Hate crime charges can help repair this damage by demonstrating to the perpetrator, victim, community, and America at large that hate won't be tolerated."

Betty Hung, Policy Director of Asian Americans Advancing Justice - Los Angeles explained the true cost to NBC News, "In vetoing AB-176, Governor Brown unfortunately sets forth a public policy approach that perpetuates the model minority myth and the dilemma of the AANHPI community being treated as a monolithic whole."

The Next Disney Princess is Native Hawaiian Auli'i Cravalho - NBC News

my article for NBC Asian America re Moana
"Everything I've seen and read about Moana makes me really excited for this movie," Keith Chow, founding editor of The Nerds of Color, told NBC News. "Like it or not the Disney Princess brand is hugely influential and to see a character like Moana — who will be played by an actual Native Hawaiian actress — added to that lineup is a win all the way around. On the heels of 'Big Hero 6,' which also featured a diverse cast voiced by diverse actors, it's nice to see Disney realize that the Asian American and Pacific Islander community is a market worth serving."

Activist, Civil Rights Icon Grace Lee Boggs Dies at 100 - NBC News

Rest in Power: AAPI voices remember Grace Lee Boggs. My article for NBC Asian America
"As a dialectical and revolutionary humanist, Grace believed that every one of us had a role to play in transforming ourselves to transform the world. At the same time, she began to express in her elder years a sense that Asian American had a unique and special role to play in breaking through the shackles that are holding back social justice," Kurashige told NBC News. "While Grace would be humbled and honored by all of the tributes coming her way, she would want everyone to use this moment to read, study, discuss, and organize to deepen their individual and collective philosophic knowledge."

Petition Seeks to Rename Hawaii's McKinley High School - NBC News

my article for NBC News Asian America
"This is the era for the United States to review its past injustices to its own people and to those of other independent states," Aoloa Patao, who started the petition, wrote in Civil Beat. "McKinley High School perpetuates and lauds a name and a man who seemingly did wonders in the eyes of many Americans, but truth be told, his legacy in Hawaii was imperialistic, dishonorable and a violation of international law."
